DisEnvy at the Movies: Maleficent

Coming off the success of movies like Frozen, and Saving Mr. Banks I was looking forward to Disney's story of the evil Maleficent. But what we got wasn't as evil an evil backstory that I was looking for.

Let me start by stating that if you have seen Sleeping Beauty or even remember Sleeping Beauty, this movie may not be your cup if tea, but if you have never seen or can't remember Sleeping Beauty, this will probably be a good movie for you.

The story itself is solid, and a decent one at that. However, the main changes that Disney makes to the orgins of Maleficent and of the Sleeping Beauty movie can be a bit much. It has enough going on that you stay entertained thoughtout the movie and pacing doesn't slow to much.

The CGI for landscapes and creatures are great, but for the wings of Maleficent and her flying scenes, get kinda cheesy.

Casting was well done and acting was great, there were some questionable scenes between the characters at points, it wasn't enough to distract.

Overall I would give it a 5/10. It's an enjoyable watch in the theaters, but it would make a better rental.
